Special 'Hands Off' Home Needed for Tapas

Stray Cat Rescued CatCuddles LOndon

Tapas is a young girl (around 1-2 years old) who was rescued living as stray, heavily pregnant. She gave birth and cared for her kittens in our care in a foster home, and all her kittens have now been adopted.

Tapas is a shy and independent girl. Even though she is definitely not fully feral, she prefers to keep humans at an arm's length. We do know the person who was initially feeding her when she was a stray was able to touch her and place her in a carrier, and Tapas definitely has the capacity to bond with humans - just in her own time. Our experienced volunteers have occasionally managed to stroke her for an extended period and she is ok with human presence. It's just clear she doesn't seek out human company and prefers humans to stay hands off.

She has now been in our care for around 6 months and rather than keeping her in a suite for months and months, waiting for her to comply with human expectations, we would love to find her a home now. She would suit one of two options: either an experienced, rescue-minded adopter who has other cat-friendly cats and would be happy for Tapas to live in the home independently. In time, she is likely to become more sociable with her humans but will always be shy and hide from visitors. Giving her a home would be extremely rewarding for someone who is happy to respect Tapas's independence and perhaps already has other more sociable cats Tapas could observe and learn from, and bond with humans over time. She will need to have catflap access into a garden in a safe location and of course everything any cat needs - good quality food, vet care when needed etc.

Alternatively, we would consider a predominantly outdoor home in a safe location - such as a farm, small-holding, stables etc. where Tapas could act as rodent patrol and enjoy her outdoor freedom. Tapas would need indoor shelter in an outbuilding, regular meals and vet care but could mainly live outdoors. Ideally she would be allowed access into the home if she chooses to become more sociable with humans in time. She would get along well with other resident cats.

Tapas is young, healthy, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and flea & worm treated.

Tapas is at our Abbey Wood, SE2 Rehoming Hub. We home cats throughout London and the surrounding areas and would consider an application from further away in this instance.
